Joan registered with Good Learning Anywhere late last Fall (November 2020). Since enrolling with GLA, Joan has completed 7 Live Adobe courses, 4 Moodle Courses, and 2 Edmentum Courses. She is currently attending the Live Anishinaabemowin for Absolute Beginners course and going strong.
Like many of us, Joan has had obstacles in her life. She has taken a risk and stepped outside of her comfort zone to try new courses and learn new things.
Joan was a traditional student mentor and an addiction counselor for 21 years. She is currently retired and gives back by volunteering to oversee the cultural component in her community.
According to her mentor, Michelle, she is an ideal learner as Joan communicates on a regular basis. Recently her instructor, Nida, commented that Joan had “Excellent Participation” in the Ready Set Write course.
We think Joan deserves to be LOM because she shows determination in the face of obstacles and has not allowed her challenges to prevent her from going after what she wants.

Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?
My appointments with doctors but the recorded session help in that area.
What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?
Evening courses are good. It is hard to do a session during the day.
What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’m proud of all of them but our language is my main focus.
What are your goals for the future?
Keep taking courses. I love learning.

I was surprised because I did not know there was a reward. LOL…Keep your mind busy and focus on learning.
