Please join us in congratulating Hanna on being SHLC’s March 2024 Learner of the Month.
Hanna was nominated by Michelle, an online educator here at Good Learning Anywhere. Here is a statement about Hanna from Michelle.
I am nominating Hanna because of how far she has come in surpassing her goal.
Hanna started with GLA last September. Since that time, she has completed 23 courses. Pretty amazing since when she registered her goal was to complete one course.
“I have decided to attempt online learning again. This will be a challenge for me, as it is not the first time. I look forward to applying self discipline and studying at my own learning pace. This will be a huge accomplishment for me to complete a course. I am looking forward to the opportunity and challenge!”
Hanna communicates regularly with her mentor. Her new goal is to complete all the Moodle courses one at a time. If anything, sometimes I have to slow her down and remind her not to rush through the courses.
We decided to ask Hanna some questions so we could share more about their story with you.
How did you first hear about online learning with Good Learning Anywhere?
Through E-Channel.
Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?
Yes, I have had struggles during my learning. I am easily distracted. That showed when attempting to answer questions on information that I should have just retained as I progressed through the Moodle courses. It’s great you are able to go back and freshen up on material at your own pace. Never try to learn on an empty stomach!
What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?
Anyone looking to improve their skills can definitely benefit from Good Learning Anywhere that Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council has to offer for free! I have brushed up on previous knowledge and been introduced to so many more interesting, fascinating facts, traditions and ways to better your everyday life. They range from coping skills and techniques to apply in the ever so fast changing world and cover so many different topics all while having fun learning, all through this online training program.
What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?
I believe my greatest achievement is sticking through this learning path from when I first took interest. I set mini, realistic goals for myself which made it more practical to achieve and continue to pursue instead of giving up.
What are your goals for the future?
To find full time employment that brings me great satisfaction from working hard and getting back into reading books.
Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?
I genuinely would like to specially thank Michele Gauthier for all of her positive feedback throughout my learning journey. She has made sure to keep me on my toes and give me the confidence I needed to keep learning so my studies didn’t slack. Special thanks to Michelle, she has been a truly inspirational mentor for me along my learning journey bringing joy to my life even on the toughest days, which pushed me to want to do better in the best way possible! Also a lot of the instructors have reached out to me on a personal level and it’s just been a rewarding feeling having everyone in my corner rooting for me including Petra, Sharon, Nida, Jaclyne, Sue, Danielle, Linda… everyone at Good Learning Anywhere! I also want to thank my classmates with their posts on forums to help me see a point of view from all different walks of life with the same goal, to better our education and support Indigenous adult learning.
Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?
Don’t ever be ashamed at where you are in life along your learning journey regardless of your age. Always be proud of your accomplishments, no one can take that pride away from you. I am so grateful to be considered for this award. I wouldn’t have been able to achieve it without the encouragement from all of the instructors that have reached out to me along the way! Miigwech!
Congratulations Hanna! All the best in 2024!
