Congratulations to Joel Mongeau; GLA’s March Learner of the Month.
Joel stood out to GLA as a dedicated learner while taking the Live online course, Creative Writing. He attended and fully participated in every session. During the class, his instructor told us that he always supported and encouraged other learners, as well as the instructor. Joel started the Creative Writing course with writer’s block and by the final class, his online journal was impressive and full of great writing. Reading Joel’s writing, it’s not hard to see his attention to detail through his thoughtful attention to even the formatting. For those of you who were at the AMAZING Slam Poetry Event in April, you will remember Joel’s writing (which Michelle read) as being powerful and deeply touching. During his time with GLA, Joel has also completed the online course: Be Your Own Boss.
One other exciting thing to note about Joel and his accomplishments – during the course he applied for a job with a company called InspireHUB and was hired!
This seems like the appropriate ending to this Learner of the Month story. We are all proud of his hard work and accomplishments here at Good Learning Anywhere!
How did you first hear about online learning with Good Learning Anywhere?
I was signed up by Contact North via Light City Church.
Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?
No struggles. Everything went smoothly.
What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?
It’s never too late to learn something new or refresh yourself on something old. If something is of interest to you, dive in, head first, and enjoy every step.
What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?
I feel I’ve reached a level of confidence with my writing that I’ve never had before. A passion for writing has sparked inside of me and nothing now can douse the flames of creativity that will continue to flow freely.
What are your goals for the future?
To keep writing, in whatever capacity or form that may take, whether it be continuing my blog (flightsofphoenix.ca), social media articles, songwriting or publishing a book.
Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?
I’d like to thank my ever supportive wife, Stephanie, for allowing me the freedom to take course. My friends Stacey Davis and Pastor Mike Williams for convincing me to start a blog, which started this whole journey. And Nida Doherty, not only for nominating me, but for giving me the confidence to pursue my passion.
Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?
This is only the beginning of my writing journey. Follow me on my blog to find out what comes next.
