Please join us in congratulating Oluwadara (Deborah) on being SHLC’s February 2025 Learner of the Month.
Oluwadara (Deborah) was nominated by Elysa, an online educator here at Good Learning Anywhere. Here is a statement about Oluwadara (Deborah) from Elysa.
Deborah is a recent emigrate from Nigeria. They, and their family, are currently living in hotel accomodations in Niagara Falls. Deborah was part of a CN group to register with GLA later in January of this year and Deborah exited from our program early in March. During Deborah’s time with us they not only completed our Moodle Introduction to Food Safety Certification and Is Smart Serve Right for You? but obtained their Ontario Food Handler and Ontario Smart Serve certificates. Deborah also went on to complete Moodle Customer Service. Deborah made incredible use of our program in the six weeks they were registered with us and, I suspect, not under ideal learning conditions. I am confident that Deborah will succeed in their new country 🙂
We decided to ask Oluwadara (Deborah) some questions so we could share more about their story with you.
How did you first hear about our program?
YMCA.
Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?
Yes I did, because the program was brain tasking, time-consuming and coupled with the fact that I had to attend job fairs as I was in search of a job made full concentration impossible. But on the second thought that this learning program was going to help improve my skills and make my job hunt a reality, I increased my focus level and dedicated more time to it. With this I overcame those learning challenges and was able to sail through the Moodle tests.
What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?
My advice for starters is to look at the objective of embarking on the program as jumping the hurdles may be tasking at the initial learning stage but there is always light at the end of the tunnel. The skills I achieved while learning is awesome and it keeps driving me in my current job.
What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?
My greatest achievement having completed this learning program is the fact that i was able to secure a job with Great Wolf Lodge. I was glad when I realized all the five (5) certificates obtained at the Online Learning Program were part of the requirements/conditions for employment at the Great Wolf Lodge after being successful in the interviews.
What are your goals for the future?
To continue to develop my skills with the objective of climbing the career ladder on my job employment with Great Wolf Lodge.
Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?
Quite a number of people to say thank you to at the YMCA, Contact North & Good Learning Anywhere. They include Mr Kelly Jones, Mrs Kimberly Lockhart, Mr Devan, Miss Aki Cook & Mrs Elysa Mascotto for their constant support and advice during this program. Without your words of encouragement, seeing this online learning program through would have been imposssible. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate you all. Thank you.
Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?
It really gladdens my heart to discover that my efforts to complete this program was recognized with the presentation of this award. I also appreciate my husband and my children for their moral support during this online learning program.
Congratulations Oluwadara (Deborah)! All the best in 2025!
