Please join us in congratulating Wendy Board on being SHLC’s August 2025 Learner of the Month.

Wendy was nominated by Nicole, an online educator here at Good Learning Anywhere. Here is a statement about Wendy from Nicole.

I am nominating Wendy because I find her to be very inspiring. Not only have I been able to connect with Wendy as her mentor, I have also had her in a few of my live classes and find her to be engaged and always willing to learn. In live classes, Wendy is open and communicative. She makes fellow learners feel heard and validates their experiences which is so important in live classes that focus on personal reflections. Wendy has a knack for being able to reflect on her experiences and share in a way that I, personally, always learn from.

She is also able to be honest about where she is in her life and willing to change direction when it’s necessary. Her ability to push herself when needed while also having the wisdom and self-awareness to pivot when life asks is really admirable.

We decided to ask Wendy some questions so we could share more about their story with you.

How did you first hear about our program?

I attended an Adult Learning place in the community where I live in South Eastern Ontario. I was looking to improve my independence and investigate the next steps in my employment. At this facility, I was given a binder of on-line course offerings – Good Learning Anywhere was one of the course providers. For the first 2 weeks, I referred to GLA, as Good Learning Everywhere!!

Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?

Determining where I will be physically while I attended 0n-line sessions. I needed to establish a “safe place”.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?

Read the whole course catalogue. Make a wish list. Pare it down to a practical and truly doable list and register. Do an introductory study of Time Management and On-Line Learning Skills.

What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?

Finishing the courses; taking notes; using the digital skills I studied. Maintaining a folder on my laptop of Certificates!!

What are your goals for the future?

To continue educating myself. To continue growing my self confidence and appreciating who I am. To build friendships, grow colleagues, fulfill my potential.

Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?

Nicole at GLA has opened herself to knowing me – I am grateful. Mentors at the adult learning centre Prince Edward Learning Centre; and fellow learners there who are nice to me and enable me to show that I am a Nice Person too. – I am pleased.

Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?

Being a “victim” is not an end point in life; find the area in which one can be your whole self – sometimes that is in Education, Workplace, Community.

Congratulations Wendy! All the best in 2025!
