Cathy Davis is a self-described “late-bloomer” when it comes to using technology.
Cathy found her way to Good Learning Anywhere (GLA) to learn more about computers and the Internet. She has a specific goal – to be better at her new job setting up computers for exams at a learning institution.
At the beginning of her journey with GLA, she was unfamiliar with computers, the Internet and online learning. We know many of our learners experience the same confusion and frustration when trying to open a browser, use a word processing program or click the right button. Cathy was this person and online learning for her was a maze of confusion.
Cathy was determined to overcome her frustration with hard work and to learn to understand the online learning world. Many may have given up, but Cathy sought help and direction from her instructors and mentor, Linda H.
Cathy started by attending the live introduction to online learning in Adobe Connect. Twice. She emailed her mentor daily, then weekly during her first 2 months seeking guidance. When it got too confusing, there were phone calls. As well, Cathy and Linda H. would meet online to walk through the topics she didn’t understand. Then one day, as if by magic, Cathy’s hard work paid off and she has independently completed numerous courses since!
We believe that being 66 years young and accomplishing all this really, Cathy really is a model for “late-blooming” and lifelong learning. For her hard work and determination, we believe Cathy Davis is deserving of May Learner for the Month.
