Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council (SHLC) and Good Learning Anywhere (GLA) are proud to announce that the recipient of the 2022 Lois Gray Award for Achievement will be going to Emily Craig.

Emily began taking classes with Good Learning Anywhere back in October 2021. She has also been taking classes with TR Leger at the same time. Emily is a great example of what people can achieve through blended learning with both online and face-to-face instruction. It requires excellent time management skills and a commitment to learning.

Emily continues to be supported by Diane Altinbilek from GLA. Emily was nominated for this award by Diane and here is what she had to say in her nomination:

Emily has been one of those learners that continuously amazes me. Besides being a dream to mentor with a positive outlook and demeanor, she demonstrates a certain tenacity and passion for learning that can be rare to find.

She is currently on a goal path to Postsecondary with the ultimate goal of completing a Bachelor’s Degree at Carelton University and is currently completing courses related to her future career aspirations in crime scene investigation. Even when experiencing setbacks such as illness or family emergencies where she needs to pause her learning, she always gets right back on track. She is a thoughtful a thorough communicator and is excellent at thinking critically and abstractly when choosing courses to fit her goals.

So far, Emily has completed Introduction to Forensics, Psychology 1,2 and 3, Sociology 1 and 2, and is currently enrolled in Medical Terminology. Emily has also taken a recent interest in mental health and has completed Mindfulness Matters and Mental Wellness.

We want to congratulate Emily for all her dedication to her learning. We also want to take a moment to thank Diane for her unwavering support, kindness, and encouragement that will forever be a small part of Emily’s future. Lois Gray is extremely proud of Emily to represent this award.
