Congratulations to Cedric Paul on being Good Learning Anywhere’s (GLA), September Learner of the Month!

Cedric has been working with GLA on and off since November 2015.  He recently moved from Orillia to Brampton in search of employment and he currently works at Pearson International Airport as a cleaner six days a week. It is a very physical job and on his first day alone he walked 11 km performing his duties.

One of Cedric’s greatest challenges with learning is currently not having Internet access since he moved away from Orillia and the learning centre. He is working hard to save money towards having the Internet installed at home so he struggles with how to continue his learning now.  Through discussions with his GLA mentor, he discovered he could use his tablet and find public access to the Internet. Cedric completes his work on his tablet while enroute to work, at breaks, and on his way home. He stops at Starbucks after work to connect to the Internet and has recently made use of the the public library on his day off.

According to Clara, his online mentor, Cedric is the “ideal” learner in her mind.

“He contacts me if he will not be logging in more than 4 days in a row and he also looks forward to my check-in emails. If he has an issue he takes the initiative to contact me.”

Clara received an inspiring email from Cedric which expressed so much of what he has gone through, the goals he has set for himself and his plans on how to achieve them.

To date, Cedric has completed 58% of his Accounting course and continues to achieve marks of 80% or better.

We decided to ask Cedric a few questions about his journey with GLA and here are his responses.

How did you first hear about online learning with Good Learning Anywhere?

In Orillia at a placement centre.

Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?

Yes, I did and still have them. I have faith and I am not alone.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?

Go for it hard, you will stumble and maybe fall. Get up and push on. Life is a struggle but make it mean something for you.

What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?

Putting alcohol and drugs behind me is my greatest achievement!

What are your goals for the future?

Work and make some good money. Also to open my own online store and be my own boss!

Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?

Clara and Edith are the only two ladies rooting for me. Thank you so much for giving me courage!

Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?

It’s an amazing surprise for me!

Please join us in celebrating Cedric. Congratulations should also go out to Cedric’s support network too. This is truly an example of a great team effort by everyone involved in Cedric’s journey.
