Please join us in congratulating Paige Eby on being SHLC’s May 2022 Learner of the Month.

Paige was nominated by her mentor, Petra. Here is an excerpt of what Petra submitted to us about Paige.

I would like to nominate a very deserving young lady, Paige Eby, with approval from her mother on the content of this writing.

Paige has an intellectual disability. A term used when a person has certain limitations in cognitive functioning and skills, including communication, social, and self-care skills. These limitations can cause a person to develop and learn more slowly or differently than others.

Paige has been a learner with GLA since September of 2020, clicking through every Edmentum course and not being able to complete a course by herself. I was assigned Paige in March 2022 and decided to have a Google Meet with Paige and her mom, Lucie.

Paige is a shy young lady and always had her mom speak for her. However, after a conversation with Lucie about allowing Paige to talk to me alone, it has been beneficial to her and me as we get to know each other. Now she says more than 2 words to me as we have built a friendship. She now attends our Google Meets alone. Paige and I have a weekly meeting and she can now share her screen and log in to her Moodle Numeracy for Work #1 – Working with Money course and click on the activities. Her reading skills are very limited, so I read or interpret the information in other ways to help her understand the material.

She accesses her Spellzone independently weekly and attends our weekly meeting without fail to do the Moodle course. These may seem like small victories, but they are huge to both Paige and me. I’m sure Paige would say “Don’t limit me!”

We decided to ask Paige some questions so we could share more about her story with you.

How did you first hear about online learning with Good Learning Anywhere?

I did a google search.

Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?

Yes, I did and Petra Bain helped me to over come them.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?

Have a great teacher and a great mentor.

What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?

I finished Centennial College doing Hospitality and Tourism.

What are your goals for the future?

I really do not know right now.

Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?

My mother and Petra Bain.

Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?

If you work hard, you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to.

Congratulations Paige! All the best in 2022!
