Israel first registered with Good Learning Anywhere in November of 2015. He enrolled in various PLATO independent courses. Israel says he enjoys his courses and is committed to lifelong learning. This is obvious to us through his regular access and progress in all of the courses he is enrolled in. Israel makes great efforts to contact his mentor when he will be away or if he is struggling with lessons.  During his time with GLA, he shared the struggles he had with gaining employment such as having to take tests to certify in Canada, but language and writing barriers prevented him from passing. Israel was attending a local LBS site but they had to cut back the hours they were open. Israel continues to access his online courses from home while seeking out another local literacy centre as he enjoys the camraderie with other adult literacy learners. This month’s winner is well-deserving and Israel makes all of us at GLA proud!

How did you first hear about online learning with Good Learning Anywhere?

English as a Second Language class

Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?

Many struggles including a learning disability, understanding, reading and writing English. I used a dictionary and talking with people and teachers to overcome them.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?

Go to school. Find programs that are fit for you. Love what you do.

What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?

I have really improved my English writing and speaking skills.

What are your goals for the future?

Continue to learn and live with balance.  When you do what you love you live in balance.

Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?

My teachers because they gave me the chance and the tools. I am also thankful for my family and my wife who helped me learn more about computers.

Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?

Don’t be shy to make mistakes when speaking English. The more you practice, the more you improve. Try hard to complete your work on your own but ask for help when you need it. Be independent. Try to learn by yourself, if you ask too many questions, you make yourself smaller.  When you do things by yourself you are more proud of what you accomplish.
