Please join us in congratulating Crystal Fluker on being SHLC’s April 2022 Learner of the Month.

Crystal was nominated by her mentor, Sharon. Here is an excerpt of what Sharon submitted to us about Crystal.

Crystal is a driven, dedicated learner. She is hardworking and focused on bettering herself through education. Crystal is a delight to communicate with as she always responds to emails and is honest with what help she needs to move forward. She registers for a lot of courses, and she always shows up and participates. Crystal is also working on getting her OSSD. She has reached out and explained some of her challenges and asked for resources to help her succeed. Since January 1, 2022, Crystal has completed an amazing 27 courses!

We decided to ask Crystal some questions so we could share more about her story with you.

How did you first hear about online learning with Good Learning Anywhere?

Through Contact North.

Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?

I have had many struggles along the way with many things I will list a couple . First the courage to sign up for courses. I had been in self destruct mode for so long I was afraid to advance myself. I am so glad I decided to go for it. I have been enjoying the courses that I have been taking and my mentor Sharon is just amazing and kind. Second, an adult learner with ADHD and newly diagnosed FASD doesn’t really work for paying attention, completing tasks, so I learned to manage myself better and I have done so many courses.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?

Go for it don’t hold yourself back. Regret will follow you if you hold back.

What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?

There’s so much… my sobriety, ending generational trauma. Signing up with Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council and Good Learning Anywhere… so many doors have been opened for me.

What are your goals for the future?

To own my own business working on natural healing and therapies for children and individuals with life changing diagnosis.

Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?

My mentor Sharon Mestwarp. She’s amazing, kind, and helpful.

Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?

This is just the result of determination hard work and don’t let anyone or anything stop you.

Congratulations Crystal! All the best in 2022!
