Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council (SHLC) and Good Learning Anywhere (GLA) are proud to announce that the co-recipient of the 2021 Lois Gray Award for Achievement is Winter McDougall.
The Lois Gray Award for Achievement is awarded to the learner who has reached or has made significant progress towards reaching their goal, whether it is employment, further training, or education. This award also recognizes the obstacles and challenges adult learners must overcome in their journey.
Winter McDougall has proven to Good Learner Anywhere that strength, support, and motivation can help overcome many barriers. She has remained positive, focused, and determined to meet her goals even though her strength has frequently been tested over the past couple of years. Throughout her journey with Good Learning Anywhere, Winter has taken more than 15 live classes and courses within five months and has reached out to further support opportunities. She has also partnered with Employment Ontario and regularly focuses on her health and well-being. Winter has shown that a healing process may not be easy, but it is possible with the right support and mindset. For these reasons, we are honoured to recognize her hard work and dedication by awarding her as GLA’s Learner of the Year.
As you read the next few lines from Winter, we can all agree this is only the beginning for Winter.
I continue to work to overcome these barriers every day and do this by changing my personal beliefs, meditating, staying active, attending therapy, gaining the proper social support, doing my best to maintain a daily routine, avoiding procrastination, getting up early, and doing the work to achieve my goals. The assistance and services provided by Employment Ontario, Job Zone, and Good Learning Anywhere have helped me put into perspective the life-changing events I have gone through by validating my experiences, personal transition, and helped me to re-identify my goals and the goals that I have been working toward all along.
The healing journey continues…”
Please join us in celebrating Winter’s continuous efforts while she focuses on her overall goals. We wish Winter all the best and feel strongly big things are coming for her.
