Meet Rose! Though in her 70’s, she began a path of self-improvement this past fall by enrolling in Good Learning Anywhere.  She has drive and determination to achieve a Bachelor’s degree no matter how long it might take.

Since last fall, she has completed 5 SABA live courses (including First Step and Postsecondary Readiness). She has completed an ACCUCESS assessment in PLATO, an Essential Skills Assessment and also became very capable within the MOODLE learning platform.

Rose has recently enrolled in a university Women’s Studies class so her path to a university degree has begun!  When Rose encounters difficulties with her online learning skills she perseveres, asking for help from her support network of friends, family and professionals.  We at Good Learning Anywhere are very proud of Rose and know her hard work will pay off.

How did you first hear about online learning with Good Learning Anywhere?

In the Spring of 2017 at a Contact North Booth at trade show in Little Current, Ontario.  Gail Cook was very informative.

Did you have any struggles with your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?

I was totally computer illiterate.  My instructors helped me a great deal as they did a lot of desktop sharing.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?

Start slow and know what you want to achieve. I graduated from High School in 1963.  This is the second time I have upgraded.  Upgrading gave me the tools and confidence I needed to get my Nursing Diploma. Now I want to attempt to complete my University Degree.

What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?

When I became a widow, at age 47, I became very independent.  I took my Nursing and worked part time till age 67.  During that time, I was also a Foster Parent  caring  for troubled Teenage boys withthe help of a Nanny and the Children’s Aid Society (C.A.S.).

What are your goals for the future?

I would like to get a degree in Indigenous studies.  Maybe graduate with my Grandson, in ten years!  In the meantime, I will keep on kayaking.

Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?

My mentor, Julie, for her ongoing encouragement, and also my three beautiful sons.

Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?

Never stop learning. Live classes are wonderful.
