Please join us in congratulating Leanne Miski as being SHLC’s November Learner of the Month.

Leanne was nominated by her mentor, Robyn. Here is an excerpt of what Robyn submitted to us about Leanne.

I began working with Leanne in November 2020. Initially she didn’t have her own computer or internet at home and had to work on her courses on her phone. She also went to her sister’s home once or twice a week to use her computer until she got her own. Right from the start, Leanne showed a great amount of determination and an awesome work ethic.

Leanne has faced many challenges including health concerns for both herself and her family members, irregular computer and internet access, COVID lockdowns that meant she couldn’t go to her sister’s to work on her lessons, and even having to find a new place to live.

Leanne has a wonderful support system in her sister, Barb, who is also a GLA learner, but otherwise has worked all on her own to navigate her courses and complete them.

Leanne logs in faithfully each week and always makes progress. When she needs help, she always asks, and when she is struggling, she always lets me know. She is great at communicating with me on a regular basis, and often lets me know how much the encouragement she receives means to her.

We were so thrilled to learn all these great attributes about Leanne that we decided to ask Leanne some questions so we could share more about her story with you.

How did you first hear about online learning with Good Learning Anywhere?

From my sister. She said it was an awesome program and that it would help me out to achieve the goals I have.

Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?

Well I got a tutor who is my sister. She helps explain things to me the way I can understand and explains it in my way of understanding. She never ever gives me the answers as much as I would like but I respect her and know its best to learn this on my own. I also am very determined to learn and be responsible for doing the work I do plus I find it very rewarding when I do learn and get a certificate. It helps me a lot with my self esteem.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?

To keep trying, don’t give up, and yes it might be difficult at first but be determined and continue your work and then it will make you feel good about yourself that you did not give up and you learned whatever you’re working on.

What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am proud that I can do math and multiplication and division. I never thought that I would be able to learn or even attempt to learn this but I have and even when I was younger I could not understand it but with the way Good Learning Anywhere explains things this has been a goal I am learning and achieving each day more and more.

What are your goals for the future?

To continue learning what I need for both math and English. Example: Spellzone. And not to give up but to grow stronger in these subjects as this is my goal: to not give up but to understand and learn the basics in these subjects to help towards goals in the future like to be able to learn proper grammar.

Is there anyone you would like to thank for supporting you on this journey?

I would like to thank my teacher Robyn for being very supporting and encouraging and flexible. Thank you Robyn for making this possible and thank you to my tutor for helping me understand things and also encouraging me to do my work.

Is there anything else you would like to share with people about winning this award?

I really like this reward and thank you. It came as a shocker but very happy about this reward as it helps me to know I am doing something to learn and better my education. It helps to know my work is noticed and wow is it ever a nice reward so I am thankful for this reward and I feel great inside.

Congratulations Leanne! All the best in 2022!
