Kathi attends the Peterborough Native Literacy Program and has been with Good Learning Anywhere since October 2018.
Kathi is dedicated to her learning and during her time with GLA she has taken courses in all 3 online platforms! In Independent learning (Plato) she has completed Introduction to Fashion Design and is currently working on Psychology and Culinary Arts. She has attended/completed many Live Classes in Saba including Personal Support Worker Essential Skills, M’Nendamowin: A Good Way of Thinking, Be Your Own Boss, Goal Setting and Time Management. In Moodle, she has completed Food for Thought and Introduction to Food Safety.
Kathi works hard on her lessons each week and her online mentor really admires the way she manages her learning in spite of anything that might be going on in her life. Her onsite teacher, Veronica, tells us that she is a longtime learner and volunteer at PNLP. Everyone at GLA who has had the opportunity to teach her in a Live Class tells us that she is a delight to have in class. Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council is proud to honour Kathi’s dedication to her learning by awarding her Learner of the Month for May 2019!
How did you first hear about online learning with Good Learning Anywhere?
I am a learner at the Peterborough Native Learning Program and my instructor introduced me to your courses.
Did you have any struggles during your learning? If so, how did you overcome them?
During my learning, I have had health struggles, as well as literacy struggles (reading and writing difficulty throughout my life). I overcame them with the help and understanding from the teacher.
What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting to improve their skills?
Take your time, listen to the advice of your teachers, and stay focused on your goal.
What is your greatest achievement? Or what accomplishment are you most proud of?
Learning to read and write, and use the computer.
What are your goals for the future?
My current goal is to get my GED in October.

I felt shocked when I found out I won this award. I never thought I would achieve something like this, but it shows me that with hard work and persistence, it is possible.
