What technology do I need to take these classes?

What software do I need to take the Live Classes?

You need to download the free Saba client software and install it on your computer. You need to have administrative rights on the computer to download and install the Saba client. Ask your tech department for help on this or call Contact North Help Desk at 1-888-850-4628

I don’t have a computer and high-speed internet. How do I get access to one?

There are a number of ways to find the nearest available public computer. Here’s a good place to start

I don’t know what courses I should take, where do I start?

After you register, you will be connected with an Online Mentor who can help you select the right Introduction courses to take. These courses are designed to introduce you to online learning and Good Learning Anywhere as well as the relevant online system (Saba, Plato, or Moodle)

How much do courses cost?

All courses are free to adults living in Ontario. Good Learning Anywhere is funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education & Skills Development (MAESD). Funding by MAESD makes it possible to offer all courses for free .

Do I need an email address?

Yes, you will need an email address to participate in classes. It is suggested that you have a Gmail account. Gmail is a free email system run by Google. Watch this video to learn how to get an email account from Gmail

What is an Online Mentor?

After you register, you will be contacted by your Online Mentor who will guide you through your learning plan with Good Learning Anywhere. Your mentor is there to answer questions, help you register for classes, and work with you to achieve your goals.

What is a learning plan?

Your Learning Plan is your online plan to reach your individual goals. Your Online Mentor will help you create goals and a step-by-step plan to reach those goals.

Are these classes for credit?

No, we do not offer any credit courses. You will receive a Certificate of Participation for completing courses.

When will I receive my login?

You will receive your login information one day before your scheduled class. All logins are sent through email. If you have not received your login , email us at, contact your Online Mentor, or call our office at 866 550 0697

What if I don’t have a computer?

You can access courses from any computer. Here are a few options for you to consider:
Contact North and centres are located across Ontario
You can also contact your local literacy centre, Friendship Centre, library or Employment Ontario office to find out about access to computers in your community.

How do I find out what courses are coming up?

You can find out what’s coming up by signing up for our newsletter. You can always check in as well on our Courses page or contact your Online Mentor.

I want to take the class but the time is never good for me, what can I do?

All our courses are recorded. If you have registered for a Live Class and are unable to attend one of the live sessions, you can access the recorded session. Here is a video on how to access recordings.

We also have Independent Study courses available, that you can do on your own, with the support of your Online Mentor. These classes are available 24 hours- 7 days a week.

Is it a video conference or a telephone conference?

Our Live Classes take place in a “virtual” classroom. There is no video, but you are able to talk to your instructor and fellow learners with your microphone and through text chat. You are also able to work on problems together on a “whiteboard”.
