The Lois Gray Award for Achievement (formerly Lois Land Award) is awarded to the learner who has reached or is on their way to reaching their goal, whether it is employment, further training or education. We also consider learners who have overcome obstacles and challenges in their lives to become successful adult learners.
Lynne began her journey with Good Learning Anywhere in April of last year. Since that time, she has completed courses in each of the 4 learning systems GLA offers. She has accumulated over 100 hours of work in independent courses. This does not include the extra time she has put in completing offline activities that are offered as an extra. Lynne has had to overcome some challenges in her life and this sometimes affects her confidence and concentration. The great thing, is that Lynne never lets this stop her from continuing her work. She keeps the lines of communication open with her mentor so that her learning plan can be adjusted if needed. Learners such as Lynne are deserving of the Lois Gray Award for Achievement.
We asked Lynne to answer a few questions about her learning journey. Here is what she had to say:
How did you get started on your educational path?
I got started on my education from Sarah Roche. She is the one that told me about this program.
What motivates you to move forward with your goals?
I am motivated everyday with my goal because I want to be able go back to work someday.
Tell us about a struggle you faced? How did you overcome it?
I struggle with short term memory loss everyday. I struggle with P.T.S.D., nightmares and flashbacks
Tell us about the most rewarding part of your learning journey?
That I am learn new things everyday that I didn’t understand when I was younger.
What is your advice for someone returning to school?
This is the best way to go. You can do it on your time. Your the one that picks your hours and how many days you want to do your course.
