Congratulations to Ross Anderson, winner of the Ivy Tabobandung Award for Leadership. He was nominated by Clara Corbiere who is his online mentor with Good Learning Anywhere.
The Ivy Tabobandung Award for Leadership is awarded to the learner who has shown leadership in the GLA learning community, whether it is through online communication and classes or in their physical community. This also includes learners who have advocated for and supported other learners and non-learners in their goals and dreams.
Ross enrolled with Good Learning Anywhere in the fall of 2014. Since that time, Ross has taken several courses from Exploring First Nations to Medical Vocabulary. Ross was nominated by Clara because Ross showed great leadership in his LIVE online classes. Ross demonstrated courage to ask questions which allowed other learners to find their voice and ask questions too. This leadership made for exciting conversations during class. We followed up with several other instructors who have gotten to know Ross over the years and they all agreed Ross has been a fabulous leader in the classroom.
We asked Ross to answer a few questions about his learning journey. Here is what he had to say:
How did you get started working with GLA?
I got started with GLA by responding to notice on a bulletin board at the library.
What motivates you to move forward with your goals?
Motivated by a desire to learn.
What did you find most challenging with online learning?
Most challenged by all the new things to learn and/or new ways of doing things-like this note.
Tell us about the most rewarding times working with Good Learning Anywhere.
Every aspect is rewarding.
What is your advice for someone thinking about online learning?
I would encourage anyone ‘thinking about’ to avail themselves of a golden opportunity.
Where do you see yourself in the next three years? What might you be doing then?
I would hope to have acquired skills with the ability to communicate them to others.
Congratulations Ross. We wish you all the best in your future.
