The First Step Program is a partnership between Contact North | Contact Nord’s Centre of Excellence in Aboriginal Distance Education, Sioux Hudson Literacy Council’s Good Learning Anywhere Program and First Nation Communities across Ontario.

The purpose of the program is to provide Ontario Works clients in the community with access to culturally appropriate and relevant introduction to online learning. This introduction may include learning about the online classroom, managing change in their lives and goal setting, so participants can make choices of further training to help them meet their educational and employment goals.

Courses are taken online from within the community’s Contact North | Contact Nord Centre. Full technical support is provided through Contact North’s Access Centres along with online instruction and mentoring for learners through Good Learning Anywhere. There is no charge for these courses.

Current Communities:

Attawapiskat First Nation

Constance Lake First Nation

Ginoogaming First Nation
