Congratulations goes out to Sarah Wilson who is GLA’s December Learner of the Month.
Sarah registered for independent learning courses in the fall and has been incredibly focused on reaching her goals ever since. In the short time she has been enrolled in our Plato independent learning courses she has been very active, organized and determined and as a result has gained so many new skills. Sarah is well on her way to accomplishing her goals. It has been very inspiring to hear about Sarah’s learning journey and what she has overcome to become the dedicated learner she is today.
We asked Sarah to answer a few questions and share her journey. These are her responses:
What advice do you have for someone thinking of upgrading their skills?
My advice would be to go for it because you never know what other doors will open along the way.
How did you start?
I started going to a learning centre and told my teacher what my goals were, then I began taking courses with Good Learning Anywhere. That is how I started.
If you encountered any struggles, what were they and how did you overcome them?
In December of 2014 I was a victim of domestic abuse, and then in June of 2015 my boyfriend passed away, both took a great toll on my life. Then one morning I woke up and said I am not going to be a victim anymore, I need to change my life because I can’t fall down anymore and now I’m here with this great honor. It shows hard work pays off in the end.
What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement was becoming a mom and showing my children that you can do anything you put your mind to.
What are your goals for the future?
My goal is to become a personal support worker.
We wish you all the best Sarah!
