My name is Sue Wright and it is my honour, on behalf of Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council & Good Learning Anywhere, to announce this year’s Ivy Tabobandung Award for Leadership.
The Ivy Tabobandung Award for Leadership is awarded to the learner who has shown leadership in the Good Learning Anywhere (GLA) community, whether it is through online communication, classes or in their community. This award also recognizes those who have advocated for and supported others in their goals and dreams.
It gives me great pleasure to award this to Ida Hilson. Ida is being recognized for her ongoing community support and leadership within GLA – SHLC.
For several years Ida has been actively volunteering with a local retirement home. Ida attends the centre and reads to seniors in her community. This is something that she is very passionate about and enjoys doing.
As well, over the past several years, Ida has been enrolled in several of GLA’s “Live” online classes. During this time, she has become confident and comfortable with the Live – online classroom and has developed gradually into a leader and support for many of her fellow learners. Ida engages with other learners and makes them feel welcome. Ida does this by simply being herself. She is kind, she is thoughtful, and is a positive support when needed. She is supportive by assisting learners throughout the class, offering words of encouragement and by supporting them with the technical help line phone number in text chat if they need more assistance.
Finally she has shown initiative and is motivated as she has actively taken steps in furthering her love of reading by seeking out additional support networks to achieve her goals.
Ida is a leader and a wonderful role model. She has positive outlook on learning and displays courage by taking risks to achieve her goals.
We wish Ida continued success in the years to come!
Congratulations Ida !!
